Accra, March 15, GNA – Members of Parliament of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Wednesday spiked rumours of impending resignations of some of them saying they were “unfounded” and “mere propaganda”.
“The MPs wish to assure Ghanaians that they continue to remain committed to the NDC and multi-party constitutional rule in Ghana,” the MPs said in a statement signed by the Minority Leader, Mr Alban Bagbin.
“The MPs also wish to state that their confidence and support for the party and National Executive Committee continues to be unflinching,” the MPs added.
They reiterated their commitment to the Party and multi-party democracy, saying in a mass party like the NDC, as in every democratic party, there were bound to be agreements, disagreements as well as divergent views.
“These disagreements, instead of being misconstrued as divisive, should rather be seen as part of the culture of unity in diversity.” The MPs said they were fully aware of the outcome of the party’s Congress in Koforidua in December last year and subsequent events and urged members, supporters, sympathisers and financiers to remain calm, united and confident in the strength, vitality and success of the Party. The statement referred to the resignation of Professor Alhassan Wayo Seini from the NDC and said the party’s Northern Region Parliamentary Caucus found it to be “untimely and ill-considered.”
“While the caucus considers the action of Prof. Wayo Seini as highly regrettable, his acrobatic defection from the NDC back to the NPP makes him unreliable, faint-hearted and politically intolerant.
“His unbridled lust for power and inordinate political ambition appear to have beclouded his judgement thus compromising his own states reasons for leaving the New Patriotic Party.”
The Caucus urged supporters not to attach too much significance to Prof. Seini’s resignation but “vote en masse” to ensure that the seat is retained by the NDC.
