The communication directorate of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, has said the “disappointing performance of Tsatsu Tsikata” in the ongoing election petition case has forced stalwarts of the governing NDC to start begging angry party supporters to be patient with the latter.
The NPP, in a statement issued on Sunday May, 5, 2013 said Mr. Tsikata’s “boring” cross-examination of the petitioners’ main witness, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the criticisms unfurled at him “has forced the NDC to come out and help salvage the image of their lead counsel by appealing to Ghanaians to have patience with the lawyer”.
The Party said: “Lawyer Kojogah Adawudu emphasized the point on Asempa FM on Friday, when he called on Ghanaians to have patience with the cross-examination style of the NDC’s lead Counsel. Nana Ato Dadzie and Abraham Amaliba, both members of the NDC legal team, on Friday expressed similar sentiments on Radio XYZ”.
The NPP noted that: “As court closed on Thursday, the usually lively General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu – Nketia, who in the most worst of days, could still beam with excitement and churn out praises and gospels of achievement this time had to leave the court with an unfriendly smile which obviously conveyed the disappointment within”.
It said: “General Mosquito as he is affectionately called, did not even try to get the attention of the media as has become characteristic of him and walked immediately into his vehicle and same can be said of the other leading members of the NDC present”.
According to the NPP, “the disappointment on the faces of NDC stalwarts was obviously due to Counsel for the NDC, Tsatsu Tsikata’s cross-examination of petitioners’ star witness Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, which after three days had failed to deliver the much needed humiliation of the petitioners’ case as predicted by the NDC, and had become dull and so predictable with a set of ‘one-line’ questions”.
It, however, noted “the disappointment on the faces of the NDC leaders was not as pronounced as that of the larger Ghanaian society who had been promised fireworks before the cross-examination of Counsel Tsatsu Tsikata started, but had for three days endured the most boring episodes of the court’s sessions since the substantive case began as a result of the disappointing cross – examination style”.
Mr Tsikata has been cross-examining the key witness and second petitioner, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the past few days in the ongoing election petition case at the Supreme Court.
