NDC founder member lauds Mahama, Akufo-Addo

A Founder Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kofi Mintah, has congratulated the party on winning the 2012 presidential election petition.

Mr Mintah also congratulated Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the first petitioner, on conceding defeat and congratulating President Mahama.

He commended the Supreme Court (SC) for giving a wise judgement, which was acceptable to all factions in the petition.

Mr Mintah, a former Central Regional Chairman of the party, made the comments when he spoke to the Ghana News Agency at Winneba on the SC ruling.

He said the behaviour of the two parties—the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP)—after the verdict was a healthy sign of peace in the country.

“No member of the NPP would misbehave, as they know their leader has conceded defeat.”

He appealed to members and supporters of the NDC to be moderate in their celebrations in order not to inflame passions.

“Do not do anything to tease your opponents in the celebration of the victory,” he said and urged Ghanaians to regard the judgement as victory for Ghana’s democracy.

He pointed out that the petition would definitely bring some reforms into the electoral system to prevent the re-occurrence of the mistakes committed in the 2012 election.
