NDC Congratulates Aliu, Ntim

Accra (Greater Accra) – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Monday congratulated Alhaji Mahama Aliu on his selection as running mate to Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer, for the 2000 elections.

A statement signed by Mr. George Quaynor-Mettle, Propaganda Secretary described the selection of Alhaji Aliu as a tribute to the new generation of business entrepreneurs who have benefited from the conducive environment created by the economic recovery programme launched by the PNDC. It recounted the support given to Lidra Construction Limited owned by Alhaji Mahama, which enabled it to enhance its capacity in the construction industry and thus qualify to tender for a number of World Bank projects.

The statement described Alhaji Aliu’s company as attesting to the equal opportunities policy of the NDC government, adding that it belies the oft-repeated opposition propaganda that the government discriminates in the award of contracts.

It recalled the close personal association of Alhaji Aliu with a number of leading members of the NDC and hoped this would contribute to the improvement of inter-party relations.

In another statement, the NDC also congratulated Mr. Bannerman Baah Ntim on his election as running mate to the PNC flag bearer, Dr Edward Mahama.
