The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is making every effort to capture the vacant Amenfi West seat. It has therefore called on the Electoral Commission to ensure fairness at the polls.
NDC Deputy General Secretary, Baba Jamal, says the party would reject the results if it suspects foul play by the NPP. ”We will no longer tolerate the electoral malpractices that the NPP perpetrated during recent by-elections. In the previous elections, we accepted them because we thought things would improve, but we saw it again at Gomoa East,” he told the ”Evening News” in an interview.
Quizzed why the NDC is crying foul about the alleged electoral fraud when they had been accused of doing the same thing in the past, Mr Jamal answered that the NPP had no moral right to be cheating at the polls.
Jamal said he was sad that the NPP was engaging in these malpractices because it was the very party that criticized the NDC whilst in opposition. ”They, when they were in opposition said Ghanaians do not eat roads and electricity and why was the NDC sending electricity to villages? Today, they?ve realized we eat roads and electricity”.
The Deputy General Secretary said the NDC has sent a signal to the whole world about the government?s involvement in electoral corruption and believed that public opinion would deter them.
On the current crisis in NDC, he said it was normal in a party that was going through transition. He however admitted that the crisis was serious and ought to be tackled with tact.
