NCCE holds forum for political parties

Juaso (Ash), Sept. 9, GNA- The Asante-Akim South District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has organised a forum for political parties in the Juaso District. It had the theme: “The need for peaceful elections and co-existence.”

It was attended by executives of four political parties in the district, pastors and opinion leaders. The political parties were the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Convention People’s Party (CPP), and the People’s National Convention (PNC).

Mr Bernard Owusu-Ansah, Juaso District Director of NCCE, noted that with 12 years of constitutional rule, democracy had come to stay in Ghana.

Mr Owusu-Ansah said it is rather unfortunate that political parties and some politicians flouted the code of conduct for political parties, which was formulated by their own representatives.

He advised Ghanaians to do away with intimidation, violence, unsavoury language and intolerance.

Representatives of the political parties stressed the need to co-exist peacefully during the electioneering campaigns and election in December to help sustain peace and stability in the country. The participants also called on FM stations in the country to be circumspect in handling of issues, and advised leadership of parties to stop making inflammatory statements.

They also called on the NCCE to educate the people on indiscipline.

Mr Joseph Appiagyei, District Electoral Officer, spoke about the election processes and preparations made to ensure free and fair elections.
