Narh Bitah Hospital to open nursing training school in October

Tema, May 26, GNA- The Narh Bitah Hospital, a private health facility in Tema would in October this year, start a nursing training school in Tema.

The school, which would run a three-year diploma course, would initially start with 35 students.

It is opened to qualified students all over the country, Dr Henry Lawson, Medical Director in charge of training at the hospital told newsmen on Tuesday at Tema.

It would be the first private hospital in Tema to establish such a facility.

Dr Lawson said they have all the basic equipment in place while the classrooms, library and computer laboratory are almost completed. He said in the initial stages they would fall on part-time lecturers until such time that they have full time tutors. He said officials of the Nurses/Midwives Council of Ghana have inspected the facilities and had made some recommendations before the school takes off.

Dr Lawson however said on completion of the course, the nurses who would work with the same hospital would enter into a five-year bond and work before leaving for elsewhere.

Dr Edward Narh, Executive Medical Director of the hospital stated that students from outside Tema would be provided with accommodation while those in town would commute from home.

He said the selection of qualified students would be carried out in conjunction with officials of the Nurses/Midwives Council. Mr Jones Ofosu, Deputy Director, Human Resource in charge of Training/Development of the Ministry of Health lauded the management of the Hospital and said it was in line with government’s policy of private sector participation in all sectors of the economy. 26 May 04
