Nankesedo installs first “Sanahene”

Yamoransa (C/R), Jan 7, GNA – A forty-two year old citizen of Saltpond-Lower-Town (Nankesedo) resident in Belgium has been installed the first Sanahene (treasurer) of the Nkusukum Traditional Area of the Central Regional under the stool name Nana Badu Panyin 1. Known in private life as Ohene Nana Agyarko Attobrah, the new chief is a supervisor of Environmental Department of St. Hubert Community Administration in Belgium.

Nana Badu Panyin, who was outdoored at a colourful ceremony at Nankesedo on Saturday, swore the oath of allegiance to Okese Essandoh VIII, Omanhene of the traditional area and other divisional chiefs at Yamoransa, the seat of the paramountcy on Tuesday. The installation of Nana Badu Panyin brought the number of the divisional chiefs to 14.

In an address, Nana Attapim Kwenu VIII, chief of Saltpond Upper Town and Mankrado of the traditional area urged chiefs resident outside the country to pay regular visits home to keep pace with the development of their people.

Nana Attapim Kwenu said it was not advisable for a chief to entrust his responsibility in the hands of a regent for a long period. He said chieftaincy had become a difficult institution to run due to the lack of support from the very people who enstooled them. “We are deserted some few days after our outdooring, we do not see the people to help us in planning and executing projects to improve our conditions of living,” he complained.

Nana Takyi, chief of Abonko near Mankessim and Kyidomhene of the area spoke on the dos and don’ts of the chieftaincy institution and advised the new chief to seek God’s guidance in his endeavours.
