NAGRAT in Eastern Region embark on indefinite strike

Koforidua, Sept. 08, GNA 96 Members of the Eastern Regional Branch of National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), on Thursday embarked on an indefinite strike action to back their demand for better conditions of service.

The decision was taken at a Regional Council meeting of the association at Koforidua.

In a press release issued by the association after the meeting signed by Mr E. A. Narteh-Yoe, Eastern Regional Chairman of NAGRAT, the association explained that its decision was necessitated by the failure of government to respond to their demands for a review of salaries of workers especially teachers by September 1, 2006.

The release said the action of the association was in addition, due to the failure of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports to fulfil all outstanding grievances in various Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) they had signed with the association.

It said Government had also refused to replace Mr Michael Nsowah, Acting Director General of Education.
