Breman-Anhwiaso (C/R), Oct. 26, GNA – The Odoben-Brakwa District Office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has trained 300 volunteers to help in disaster management in the district. Mr Matthew Eduful Annan, the District NADMO Co-ordinator, announced this at a ceremony to mark the World Disaster Day celebration at Breman-Anhwiaso at the weekend.

He said the organisation had initiated a programme to train more volunteers to help prevent and manage natural and man-made disasters in the area.

Mr Sampson K. Anfakoh, District Chief Executive for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa cautioned the people against building structures on waterways since that contributed to the occurrence of disasters. Mr Anfakoh said some disasters could be prevented if the people collaborated with NADMO in its work.

Mr Kweku Danso, NADMO District Administrative Officer, distributed relief items worth more than two million cedis to disaster victims at Breman-Anhwiaso as part of activities marking the Day.

Nana Boduah V, Chief of Breman-Anhwiaso thanked the government for assisting disaster victims in the area and gave the assurance that the people would undertake self-help projects to complement government’s developmental efforts.
