Cape Coast, Sept. 10, GNA – The Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast, Mr. Ebo Barton-Odro, on Friday, joined hundreds of orthodox Muslims in the Cape Coast Metropolis, to celebrate Eid ul-Fitr, the Feast of Ramadan, in Cape Coast.
Addressing them later at the Holy Child Prayer grounds, the MP prayed for the blessings of Allah over His people and was of the hope that their prayers during the period of fasting would be answered.
He advised parents to send their children to school and also ensure that they are well educated for them to become good future leaders who would be beneficiaries not only to their communities but the nation at large.
The Deputy Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Yusif Mohammed, who led the prayers, asked for prosperity, good health and long life for the President, Ministers of State and other leaders and for Ghanaians in general.
He called on Muslims to follow the teachings of the Holy Quoran to find favour in the eyes of Allah and also use the right means to acquire wealth and desist from engaging in dubious means to make money.
They should also live in peace and harmony with one another.
For his part, the President of the Central Regional Muslim Chiefs, Chief Mohammed Dandey Mazawajey, reiterated calls on parents to give the education of their children priority attention and appealed to the Government to recognize the 30 per cent quota for indigenes to enable students to benefit from schools in the Metropolis.
At Abura, a suburb of Cape Coast, Osumanu Abudulai, the Abura Circuit Missionary in charge of the Ahmadiyya Movement, appealed to Muslims to be law abiding and refrain from anti-social activities.
He made the appeal at a special service to mark the Ramadan at the Cape Coast Technical Institute Park.
He said fasting is a religious exercise, which draws those who engage in it closer to Allah, and also brings peace and unity amongst Muslims.
He charged them to use the occasion to reconcile with each other and pray for forgiveness of their sins.
Osumanu Abudulai said their 30-day fast would be useless if they continue to live in sin and, therefore, charged them to endeavour to stay holy at all times.
Mrs Ama Benyiwa-Doe, Central Regional Minister, who prayed with the over 1,000 Muslims, thanked them for their peaceful co-existence and later donated GH¢200.00 to the movement.
