Muslims asked not to observe Eid-ul-Adha as mere ritual

Agona Mensakrom, Jan 21, GNA – The Agona Swedru circuit Missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Osofo Majeed Mohammed has urged Muslims not to make the annual celebration of Eid-ul-Adha, a mere ritual. Osofo Mohammed said they should rather use the festival to ponder over how they related with members of their families, people in authority and their maker, Allah.

He made the call after open-air prayers at Mensakrom near Agona Swedru, to mark Eid-ul-Adha, the Muslim feast of sacrifice. The Circuit Missionary asked Muslims to do critical analysis of themselves to know where they have fallen short in their social responsibilities in other to make the necessary amends. “The examination will make us know whether we are the type of people who refuse to pay taxes and levies and participate in communal activities.

“Are we the type of people who hide behind radio and television phone- in- programmes to insult people in authority and fail to obey the commandments of God?”

Osofo Mohammed said submissiveness to the will of Allah was what motivated Prophet Ibrahim to accept to offer his only child, Ishmael, as a sacrifice to the Supreme Being.

Osofo Mohammed appealed to Muslims to donate towards the upkeep of the tsunami victims.

Prayers were said for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the disaster and for speedy recovery of the injured. Prayers were also said for President John Agyekum Kufuor and the government.
