Muslim Students To Honour Dr. Mustapha

Accra, (Greater Accra) 17 Oct.,

The Ghana Muslim Students’ Association (GMSA) is to institute an annual memorial lectures in honour of Dr. J.F.O. Mustapha, the first Ghanaian neuro-surgeon, for his immense contribution to the country’s health delivery system. A statement issued by the association in Accra yesterday, said the maiden lectures will be delivered in December. It described Dr. Mustapha, the first African member of the International Society of Surgeons, as a devoted Muslim who, apart from helping to train many medical doctors at the University of Ghana Medical School (UGMS), projected the image of the Ghanaian doctor abroad. Dr. Mustapha, an alumnus of GMSA and later its patron, died on March eight. It said Dr. Mustapha, regretably did not have a place to lay his head until he passed away. The statement described the situation as ”unfortunate” and ”disheartening”.
