Mukarama Abdulai has been recalled to the Ghana squad after a two-year absence as the Black Queens begin their 2028 Olympic Games qualification campaign against Mauritius.
The Unye Kadun forward is one of five players brought back by head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren for the two-legged second-round tie. Rose Teye Baah, Diana Amoako, Helen Alormenu and Nancy Amoh are also included after returning to the national team.
Bjorkegren has selected 24 players for the qualifiers and has added two uncapped members to the senior squad. Rabiatu Maltiti and Margaret Agyapomaa have received their first call-ups as the coach continues to reshape his team ahead of the upcoming international break.
Seventeen players from the Ghana side that competed at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco have been retained for the Olympic qualification campaign.
Ghana did not take part in the opening round of the qualifying process after receiving a bye. They will now meet Mauritius in the second round, with the winner progressing to the next stage.
The first leg will be played on October 8. Ghana will host the return match at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 13, five days later.
Mukarama’s recall gives Bjorkegren an additional attacking option as the Black Queens prepare for a demanding tie. The forward previously attracted attention through her appearances at FIFA U-17 and U-20 Women’s World Cup tournaments and was considered one of Ghana’s leading young attacking prospects.
Her development at senior level was disrupted by persistent injuries, which kept her out of the national team for the past two years. The return to the squad gives her the chance to re-establish herself within the Black Queens setup.
Bjorkegren has combined the returning players’ experience with opportunities for new members as he continues his work to build a squad capable of competing in several competitions.
Ghana will be aiming to secure a positive result in the opening match in Mauritius on October 8 before attempting to finish the tie at home. The second leg at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 13 will determine which side advances to the next round of the Olympic qualification process.
