Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has indicated that Legislators will not risk their lives by entering the Job 600 building until Fire officers declare the place safe.
The 10th floor of the Job 600 building which serves as offices for Members of Parliament and their research assistants caught fire Tuesday, July 18, 2017.
The fire reportedly started around 6:30 pm in an equipment room on the 10th floor of the office complex for MPs.
People occupying other floors in the building had to vacate their offices to safety and make room for Firefighters to bring the situation under control.
Speaking to the media, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu said it was advisable for occupants of the building to avoid entry to allow the firemen to work effectively.
“None of us has gone upstairs yet. We’ve left the place for Fire Officers to be working. So not until they declare the place safe for us, we’ll not risk going upstairs,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Prince Billy Anaglate has allayed fears and has asked the MPs and the general public to remain calm as the fire was a minor one.
