MP urges police to work with the public

Busunya (B/A), Jan. 12 GNA – Major Derek Oduro (rtd), MP for Nkoranza North has urged the police to work with the public to obtain vital information that would help combat the crime wave in the area.

Major Oduro gave the advice during a visit to Busunya, capital of the new Nkoranza North district to inspect an on-going police station project. He stressed that since the police served as peacemakers “they need to promote unity, peace and understanding among the people and to ensure their security”.

The MP urged the people to report suspected criminals to the police for their apprehension and punishment. Major Oduro advised the police personnel in the area to live above reproach and shun negative practices that could tarnish the image of the profession.

He expressed concern about the upsurge of rape, defilement and armed robbery cases in the area, which he said should be reported to the police instead of being handled by opinion and traditional authorities.

The MP promised to help ensure that the police were provided with the necessary logistics to serve in the new district, as well as an increase in their strength. Major Oduro commended the people for initiating the police station project and urged them to embark on more developmental projects. Mr. Kingsley Oheneba Yeboah, chairman of the unit committee in the area commended the government for providing GHC 30,000 through the Nkoranza District Assembly in support of the police station project, estimated at GHC 40,000.

He expressed gratitude to the people for their unity and cooperation towards development programmes and advised them to maintain such communal spirit to move the district forward.
