MP urges kingmakers to uphold peace and unity

New Longoro (B/A), Aug. 23, GNA – Mr Stephen Kunsu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kintampo North, has urged Kingmakers and elders of Mo Traditional Area to promote peace and unity among themselves and eschew chieftaincy disputes and litigations because they retard progress.

Mr Kunsu told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at New Longoro that no government and its development partners would invest in areas where there was no peace.

He cited an instance where the people of Mo had not agreed to come together to install a chief to succeed Omnahnene Nana Kwaku Dimpo II, who died about seven years ago. Mr Kunsu expressed concern about recent clashes at Portor as a result of a chieftaincy dispute, leading to the death of two persons and advised the people to use dialogue to resolve issues rather than resorting to unnecessary confrontations which lead to the destruction of properties.

He said Kintampo North was endowed with tourist attractions and that there was the need for the people to guard against negative practices that could put the name of the district into disrepute. The MP expressed concern about the high cost of funeral arrangements in the area implored the people to reduce their expenditure on the dead and rather invest in the education of their children. Mr Kunsu called on the youth of the area to cherished and respect their culture. 23 Aug. 07
