Winneba, March 29, GNA- The NDC Member of Parliament for Hohoe South, Mr. Stephan Joseph Zigah, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to do its best to organize a free and fair election in December to deepen democracy.

He said anything that could undermine the credibility the election should be avoided in the interest of peace. Mr. Zigah said this when he addressed a general meeting of the Tertiary Educational Institution Network, (TEIN) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) of the NDC on Friday. The theme for the occasion was “the role of the youth towards peaceful and credible election in 2008”. He said the electoral process must be strictly adhered to and ensure a level playing field for all political parties in order to ensure credibility of the results.

Mr Zigah called on the international community, the Christian Council of Ghana and all other stakeholders to contribute towards free, fair and transparent elections. The President of TEIN, Carlos Ibrahim Chireh, said students should not allow themselves to be used by any political party to derail the current peaceful atmosphere in the nation. Mr. Chireh urged the Electoral Commission to remain resolute in order not to lose the confidence Ghanaians have in them
