Moves to enhance the learning of English language at Bole

Bole (N/R), Feb. 18, GNA – The Break Through to Literacy Project, an NGO at Bole in the Northern Region has broken new grounds to ensure the continued development of language skills among teachers and learners of the English language.

At a Town Hall meeting organized by Education Quality For All (EQUALL), to sensitise stakeholders on their roles and responsibilities in education, Mr Samuel Saaka Kora, Coordinator of (BTL) said, the organization has created three grade home language literacy courses to enhance teaching and learning of the English language.

The meeting, which was attended by representatives of Traditional Authorities, Circuit Supervisors, SMC and PTA, Assembly and Unit Committee’s and Opinion Leaders was also to create a platform for a continuous dialogue around education, especially reading achievements. It will further allow stakeholders in the district to outline their roles and to contribute towards the quality of education.

Mr Kora said BTL has designed good English courses, which prepares learners of English as the language of studying in the country. According to him, the Molteno project to English is one such course under which teachers are trained in various fields of endeavour. He said, it provides language education that would equip the foundation phase learner to learn through the medium of English at higher levels in schools, adding that the Break Through To Literacy offers language experience as it starts from what the learner knows in his own language to assist him learn something new.

He said by the end of the course, learners would be able to demonstrate proficiency in the language as well as develop good skills in listening, reading, thinking and reading. 18 Feb. 05
