Koforidua, Sept. 11, GNA – The People’s Independent Movement (PIM), a pressure group, said the statement made by Dr Tony Aidoo, a leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to the effect that “Christians who speak in tongues are mad” was in bad taste.
The PIM said the statement was in the first place, highly offensive, particularly to Christians who formed a very large segment of the Ghanaian society.
A statement issued by the PIM in Koforidua and signed by Nana Addo-Aikins, Interim Spokesman for the group, observed that Dr Aidoo’s pronouncement’s could have negative implications on the NDC political fortunes and its expectations in the 2012 elections.
The PIM therefore advised President John Evans Atta Mills and the leadership of the NDC to impress upon Dr Aidoo to retract the statement.
The PIM urged the NDC to distance itself from the statement if Dr Aidoo was not prepared to withdraw it.
“The PIM sees such a move as the only way out for solving the problem Dr Aidoo’s statement has created for the NDC”.
