Motor rider granted 90 million cedis bail for causing harm

Tema, Jan. 20, GNA – Tema Circuit Court ‘B’, has granted a 90 million cedis bail to a man who negligently caused harm to a pedestrian with an unlicensed motorbike.

John Akoto, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, would reappear on February 9, 2005.

Police Chief Inspector Teye Matey, told the Court presided over by Mr Stephen Teye that on November 13, 2004, the accused who was travelling from Somanya to Tema decided to tow a motorbike alongside the road, which had developed a mechanical problem, including the rider and a passenger.

On reaching a section of the road, John applied the brakes of his bike suddenly, causing the passenger to fall down and injuring himself. Chief Inspector Matey said the victim was rushed to the Tema General Hospital for treatment, but died two hours later.
