Mother, children saved in auto accident

A mother and her three children narrowly escaped death when a Range Rover car ran into their residence at Tebibianor Roundabout, in Teshie, near Accra, last Friday night.

The four were in their sitting room, waiting to go to bed when suddenly the vehicle hit and broke one of the four walls of the bedroom, as well as that of the sitting room and eventually stopped in the living room.

An eyewitness, Mr Leonard Okang, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the incident happened around 2045 hours, when the car suddenly swerved and knocked down a pedestrian before entering the house.

He said the accident nearly claimed the lives of the mother, Madam Theodora Agoe Armah, and her children Naa Deedei, Naa Korkoi and Nii Ayi Armah.

The driver, whose name was given as Randy Quaye, alias Sowah Azaa, is reported to be receiving treatment at the Trust Hospital in Osu.

The mother and her children, who sustained various injuries were rescued and sent to the LEKMA Hospital, but later referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

Madam Armah and two of her children, Naa Deedei and Nii Ayi, after treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, have since been discharged while Korkoi is still on admission.

According to the eyewitness, the driver was the only occupant in the vehicle, and that, an airbag in the car saved the driver from serious injuries.

He said neighbours rushed to the rescue of the victims after they heard a boom sound when the vehicle crashed into the rooms.

Madam Armah said they were saved by divine intervention.

The Kpeshie Divisional Police confirmed the incident, and said investigations are ongoing.
