Akumsa Domase (B/A), March 21, GNA – More than 300 residents of Akumsa Domase in Nkoranza have been displaced following a rainstorm that hit the area on Tuesday and ripped off the roofs of about 20 houses. The local Pentecost Church also collapsed following the rainstorm. The affected house owners would have to spend millions of cedis to rehabilitate their buildings.
Mr Stephen Owusu-Ansah, zonal coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in-charge of Akumsa Domase and Mr Yaw Tabiri, member of the Area Council on Wednesday conducted the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and the District NADMO Coordinator, Mr Alfred Attah-Yeboah, to inspect the damage.
Miss Sophia Ama Serwaah, a 21-year old dressmaking apprentice was injured when a roofing board fell on her and was rushed to St. Theresa’s Hospital at Nkoranza.
Mr Owusu-Ansah said the displaced persons were putting up with friends and relatives.
Mr Attah-Yeboah expressed regret about the disaster and promised to inform the Regional and National Secretariats of the organization for the mobilization of some relief items for the affected persons. He advised the people to plant trees in their communities to serve as windbreaks to check the effects of future rainstorms.
