More people die in accidents in Volta Region

Ho, Aug. 24, GNA – Some 77 people were killed and 246 others were injured in road accidents in the Volta Region in the first half of 2010.

Mr Victor Tandoh, the Acting Volta Regional Road Safety Coordinator, said this at a meeting of Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

Mr Tandoh attributed the causes of the accidents to driver apathy, tiredness and pedestrians conflict with vehicles.

He said some vehicles were also not fit to be on the road and called for efforts to address the issues saying, “Road safety is a shared responsibility.”
