Sources from the Electoral Commission (EC) have hinted that the alleged exposé at the commission by the Chairperson, Madam Charlotte Osei and her deputies could move onto the second gear if nothing is done about the situation.
The raging rancor, it has been gathered, could see both parties coming public with otherwise classified documents to muddy themselves in a desperate attempt to protect their images over allegations and counter allegations.
Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has disclosed that corrupt practices clad in shady deals existed long before the assumption of office of Madam Charlotte Osei who has accused by two of her deputies Georgina Opoku Amankwah and Amadu Sulley of financial malfeasance currently under investigations by the Economic and Orgarnised Crime Office (EOCO).
“I could remember that the immediate past chairman of the Commission couldn’t account for money used to conduct an election in a particular year when he appeared before us some time ago”, the Suame lawmaker recollected.
Both have denied the claims and have subsequently heaped a litany of allegations on the EC Chairperson who appears to be fighting back in the raging media banter to protect her image.
Sources however hinted that both parties are arming themselves with documentary evidence to outdo the other in the coming days if the murky situation is not immediately dealt with.
The confusion at the commission reached its crescendo last week after a group calling itself the concerned staff of EC made about 28 claims against the Chairperson.
Among them were the fact that chairperson of the commission, Charlotte Osei, had single-handedly renegotiated a contract with a vendor worth $ 21,999,592 immediately she took office from her predecessor contrary to the Public Procurement Law.
Madam Osei has described the allegations as baseless and fabricated lies concocted by some faceless individuals hiding under the name of concerned staff of the commission.
