Ghanaian singer and songwriter Moliy has been nominated in the “Best Afrobeats” category at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), making her only the second Ghanaian artist in history to receive this recognition.
Her remix single, “Shake It To The Max (Fly),” has earned her a place on the prestigious global stage, highlighting her growing influence in the international music scene.
The VMAs, scheduled to take place on September 7, 2025, will celebrate outstanding achievements in music videos and performances across genres and regions. Moliy follows in the footsteps of dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, who was nominated in 2021 for his collaboration with Beyoncé on “Already.”
Known for her unique blend of Afrobeats, soul, and alternative sounds, Moliy’s rise has been marked by a distinct sonic identity that continues to resonate with fans worldwide. The nominated remix track has garnered significant attention on global streaming platforms and social media, further elevating her reach and musical footprint.
This nomination is not just a personal achievement for the singer, but also a defining moment for Ghana’s music industry. It adds momentum to the country’s growing presence in the global Afrobeats movement, a genre that continues to command worldwide attention.
While reacting to the news, Moliy expressed her gratitude and joy, calling the nomination a “dream come true” and a step forward for Ghanaian representation on global award stages.
As anticipation builds for the September ceremony, fans and industry players alike will be watching closely, hopeful that Moliy’s nod transforms into a win — one that would mark another proud moment in Ghanaian music history.
