MND Jawula: Naturally I’m sad but…

A senior member and running mate hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lepowura Mahamadu Nuru-Deen Jawula, has said naturally he is disappointed he missed out in a bid to become the main opposition party’s vice presidential candidate.

However, he has promised to throw his weight behind the Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia permutation.

Alhaji Jawula’s hopes were dashed on Thursday afternoon, when the National Council of Elders of the NPP accepted Dr. Bawumia as the party’s running mate without a single dissenting view.

Speaking to Joy News, Alhaji Jawula said despite the snub he was confident in Nana Addo’s choice.

“Naturally, I’m a little disappointed, but I have no choice,” the man heavily touted as a typical ‘Zongo boy’ who could have amassed more votes in the Zongos said. “I’m happy for my junior brother [Dr. Bawumia].”

He said: “We know he is a bright young man with brilliant ideas.”

“So we will have all hands on deck to support and move the party forward,” Alhaji Jawula concluded.

Conversely, Dr. Bawumia, a former deputy Bank of Ghana governor, told Citi News that he was humbled by the decision of the flagbearer and was confident that his nomination would in turn, bring transformation to Ghana.

A former Ghana President, John Agyekum Kufuor, is also reported to have said: “This is a beautiful day. Nana Addo has shown consistency and I believe Mahamudu is a very good choice.”**
