Mion District Assembly holds its first meeting

The newly created Mion District Assembly has held its maiden assembly meeting at Sang, and elected its presiding member.

Mr. Alhassan Adam, Assembly Member for Sang Electoral Area, polled 20 votes to beat Mr. Iddiris Husseini, Assembly Member for Jimile, who polled 5 votes.

The Deputy Northern Regional Minister, Mr. San Nasamu Asabigi who swore in the presiding member, appealed to the members to work in unity to assist their people to fight illiteracy, poverty and diseases.

He said there was the need for them to work hard to generate revenue and urged them to work in collaboration with the traditional authorities.

Mr. Adam expressed his appreciation to the assembly members for electing him as their presiding member.

He said since the creation of the assembly, there had been jubilation all over the district, saying this jubilation would be more acceptable when the assembly progresses in terms development.

Mr. Adam appealed to the assembly members to ensure there is unity among the people in the area.

The Yendi Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Issah Zakaria, advised the assembly members, who got experience from the Yendi Municipal Assembly, to explain to their people the concept of the assembly because the people would be expecting so much from them.

The Member of Parliament for Mion Constituency, Dr. Alhassan Ahmed Yakubu, told the assembly members that their job is to represent their people, adding “there would be no excuse should you fail”. **
