Ministry Of Health To Collaborate With Herbal Institutions

Dr Emmanuel Tinkorang, Eastern Regional Deputy Director of Health Services, has expressed the readiness of the Ministry of Health to collaborate with herbal institutions whose preparations have been proved scientifically to be efficacious for malaria.

He said the policy was part of its programme of working with partners to reduce the malaria mortality and morbidity to fifty per cent by the year 2010.

Dr Tinkorang was launching the malaria awareness month at Anof, near Nsawam, on the theme: “Clean Environment, Healthy People,” at the weekend.

He said community-based volunteer groups, including teachers would be formed to educate the people on how to handle and prevent malaria.

Mr Seth Owiafe Dankwa, MP for Akwapim South, said as much as the government was committed to the fight against the disease the people should complement the efforts by ensuring clean environment.

They should undertake regular cleanup exercises to minimise the rate of malaria infection and to ensure healthy life.

Mr Andrew Nyarko Adu, District Chief Executive, said the Assembly was working in collaboration with the Environmental Health Service to address the problems of sanitation in the district.

He said the Service had been asked to reactivate the Expanded Sanitary Inspection and Compliance Enforcement Programme to ensure sanitation in the district.
