Minister warns youth against strike actions

Drobo (B/A), July 24, GNA – Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Saddique, Minister of Manpower, Youth and Employment, has advised the youth engaged under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) to work assiduously and shun industrial actions.

He said by their conscientious attitude to work, the programme would be sustained to achieve the desired goals. The minister said this at Drobo in Jaman South District during a one-day tour of the region that took him to Kintampo North, Kintampo South, Berekum, Dormaa, Jaman North districts and Techiman municipality. A beneficiary had asked the minister if they, as employees, could also embark on strike actions if their salaries or allowances were delayed.

Alhaji Saddique cautioned the personnel to choose between engaging in the unwholesome acts of strike actions, some of which lead to the destruction of state property and loss of jobs or working assiduously for the betterment of their situations and that of the nation. He said the ministry would not hesitate to fire beneficiaries of the NYEP who would engage in industrial action. Mr. Apraku Tanor, District Chief Executive, said out of 2,905 applications received for placement, the assembly had engaged 674 youth in six modules. 24 July 07
