Minister outlines measures for employment generation

Mr Isaac Edumadze, the Central Regional Minister, on Thursday announced plans for an integrated investment drive to generate employment in the region. He said the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC), and the Central Region Development Commission (CEDECOM), will liaise with relevant sector ministries including those of tourism and agriculture, to devise ways of attracting investors to the region.

The minister who was speaking at a press conference at Cape Coast, on Wednesday, mentioned that the Komenda sugar factory will be revamped to create jobs for the youth.

He also promised that problems in the agricultural sector will be solved and management of the Ceramics works at Saltpond will be assisted to operate at full capacity.

The regional minister announced that the Cape Coast-Accra road, will be re-constructed to facilitate tourism and other socio- economic activities in the region.

He said Kasoa will be given a facelift to befit its status as the gateway to the region. Mr Edumadze gave the assurance that he will study projects initiated by his predecessors to enable him to continue with the viable ones.

He applauded the media for their contribution to the socio- economic development of the country. The regional chairman of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA), Mr John Arthur, commended the government for its efforts to scrap the criminal libel law from the statutes book.

He however advised the media to uphold truth and objectivity in the discharge of their constitutional functions.

Earlier, Mr. Edumadze dismissed speculations that the government will ban the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), from operating.
