Minister of Local Government visits Ambassador of France

On Wednesday September 10, 2014, the Ambassador of France in Ghana, H.E. Frédéric Clavier, received at the Embassy Hon. Julius Debrah, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development.

The Minister wanted to raise sanitation issues, and the challenges posed by the current cholera outbreak in the country. Hon. Julius Debrah put a request for assistance from the French government in providing sanitation facilities and in supporting public awareness campaigns in order to prevent more effectively the expansion of the epidemic now and in the future.

The Ambassador agreed to consider favorably the request. He mentioned the ongoing and pipeline projects from Agence Française de Développement (AFD) in the decentralization sector (contribution to the District Development Facility) and the sanitation sector as well as the actions carried out by the Embassy in terms of environment education which could all contribute to address the appeal made by the Ghana Government.

The meeting was also the opportunity for recalling the SPF Project “Strengthening the accountability of Ghana’s central and local administrations” signed in July, to which France committed 800.000 euros.
