Mining engineer enstooled as chief of Apaah

Apaah (Ash), May 23, GNA- Dr Emmanuel Baffour Boakye, a 55-year-old mining engineer of AngloGold Ashanti, has been enstooled as chief of Apaah in Sekyere West District of the Ashanti Region. The new chief who has Baffour Baah Osiakwan II as the stool name, succeeds Nana Ayeh Buadum who was destooled two years ago after he was found guilty of destoolment charges preferred against him by the Mampong Traditional Council.

Nana Osiakwan, who works at the Induapriem Mines at Tarkwa, has already sworn an oath of allegiance to Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, Mamponghene.

Speaking at a durbar held at Apaah at the weekend, the new chief appealed to the people to refrain from litigation, rumour mongering and laziness and instead foster unity towards the development of the area. Nana Osiakwan also advised the people against farming around riverbanks, bushfires and to undertake tree planting to protect the environment from degradation.

He called on parents to send their children to school to enable them take advantage of the Government’s Capitation Grant.
