Mills is the winner

Accra, Jan. 3, GNA – Professor John Evans Atta Mills of National Democratic Congress (NDC) was at exactly 1109 hours on Saturday January 3, 2009 declared the President-Elect of the Republic of Ghana.

The Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan made the declaration based on the following statistics arising out of the conduct of the Presidential Election Runoff held on December 28, 2008 and January 2, 2009.

Number of votes obtained:

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo 4,480,446 49.77%

Professor John Evans Atta Mills 4,521,032 50.23%

Total valid votes cast 9,001,478

Total rejected votes 92,886

Total votes cast 9,094,364

Total registered voters 12,472,758

Total percentage turn out 72.91%

Percentage rejected votes 1.02%
