Military embraces the general public

New Dormaa (B/A), March 8, GNA – Lieutenant Colonel

Cornelius Lithur, Commanding Officer of Third Battalion

(3BN) of Infantry of the Ghana Army, has assured

communities along the Ghana-La Cote d’Ivoire borders of

adequate military security. “The borders are secured and there is no cause for alarm”,

Lt. Col. Lithur told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an

interview at the Liberation barracks in Sunyani. The commanding officer was speaking after the Armed

Force open day was held at the barracks on Monday. The day was designed by the military to allow the public

access into the barracks to acquaint themselves with their

operations and was part of the celebration of the country’s

54th Independence Day anniversary. Similar 91open days’ were held in all military establishments

throughout the country. Lt. Col. Lithur said there was the need to promote sound

civil-military cooperation and to 93remove the fear the general

public associates with the barracks”. He reiterated the importance for the military to help instil a

sense of patriotism, nationalism and discipline among the

current crop of youth. Earlier, Mr. Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, the Brong-Ahafo

Regional Minister, inspected a guard of honour. Led by Lt. Col. Lithur and other officers of the battalion the

regional minister and the more than 500 school children, as well

as other heads of departments witnessed the silence drill,

obstacle crossings, ammunition fixing and enemy attacks. Some of the school children had the chance to ride on the

military’s armoured vehicles.
