Michael Essien donates books to schools

Ekumfi Eyisam (C/R), June 14, GNA – Football star Michael Essien has donated 90,000 supplementary readers to be given to primaries four, five and school pupils in the Central Region.

He ordered the books from the British company, McMillan, and would be distributed free-of-charge to the pupils to assist raise the standard of education in his home region.

The books were received at Cape Coast by the Regional Director of Education, Mr Safo Kantanka, who handed them over to District Directors of Education for distribution to schools in their district. The Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, commended Essien and appealed to others who have the resources to also assist.

He said the books had come to help to solve the falling standard of education in his municipality as some pupils are without reading books. Ms Vivian Etroo, the Municipal Director of Education, also commended Essien for the donation and appealed to teachers to ensure pupils make very good use of the books.

She praised Mr George Kuntu Blankson, the Member of Parliament for Mfantseman East and Mr Acquinas Tawiah Quansah, MP for Mfantseman West, for their roles in promoting education in the municipality. 14 June 10
