Mfantseman District Council of Labour declares Sanitation Day

Mankessim (C/R), Oct. 20, GNA – The Mfantseman District Council of Labour (DCL), has declared the second Thursday of every month as Sanitation Day during which workers would undertake massive clean-up exercises in some of the communities.

Mr Adjei Asamoah Kusi, Chairman of the Council, who announced this at a clean-up exercise at Mankessim said the decision to declare the day was to help improve unsanitary condition in some of the communities. Mr Adjei Kusi appealed to traders, artisans and others to participate in the exercises to rid the communities of filth, which was the major cause of diseases.

Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, Mfantseman District Executive commended the DCL for the initiative and expressed support of the Nfantseman District Assembly to make the clean-up exercise a success. Mr Quainoo-Arthur expressed concern about how plastic materials, especially containers of sachet water had littered the streets and the gutters choking them with waste matter.

The DCE said the National Health Insurance Scheme, which was about to be implemented would not be a panacea to good health if the people did not pay attention to personal and environmental hygiene. Mr P.A. Owusu, Secretary to the DCL commended the workers for a good job done and urged them to turnout in their numbers for the subsequent exercises. 20 Oct. 04
