Mfantseman District Assembly to promote tourism

Ekumfi Suprudo (CR), Dec 28, GNA – The Mfantseman District Assembly has commissioned the Geography Department of the University Cape Coast to create a Web-Site to make for the easy location of tourist attractions in the District.

This was stated by Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, District Chief Executive (DCE) at the Ayerye Festival of the Chiefs and people of Ekumfi Suprudo near Mankessim.

The DCE said there were many tourist attraction in the District including the place Fante Chiefs met formed the Fante Confederation at Okyi near Abandze and the “Owu-Amuna” at Kormantse where Ashanti warriors were driven into a deep hole during the Fante-Ashanti wars both in historical times.

Other sites include the Nananom Pow between Suprudo and Mankessim where the mortal remains of Oson, Obrumankoma and Odapagyan, the three men who led the Fantes from Techiman to their present abode were buried and kept their gods and the sword they planted at Mankessim. Mr Quainoo-Arthur urged Chiefs to inform the Assembly about tourist attractions in their areas for development.

The DCE said negotiations between leaders of the town and the District Assembly with investors from Denmark for a flower project in the area were in an advance stage.

Nana Ato Arthur, Central Regional Deputy Minister, announced that District Assembly Elections would be held in 2006 and urged the people to take the exercise seriously to elect development-oriented people to represent them.

Mr Josiah Arko Korsah, an opinion leader appealed for a bridge over the Ochie River to link the town and Amissano to shorten the distance between the communities and Mankessim.
