Mfantseman DCE calls for public support in revenue generation

Saltpond (C/R), Jan. 16, GNA – The Mfantseman District Chief Executive, Mr. Robert Quainoo-Arthur has urged Ghanaians to support their Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in revenue generation to place them in a position to do more to improve their living conditions.

Mr. Quainoo-Arthur said the assemblies could not achieve much development if revenue generation was seen as the sole responsibility of the few revenue collectors employed by the assemblies. He made the call at the inauguration of a rehabilitated 125 KVA generator at the Saltpond Government Hospital.

The District Assembly spent 30 million cedis to rehabilitate the generator, which had been out of order for the past five years. Mr. Quainoo-Arthur said it was a policy of the government to make workers feel happy and secured at their work places and appealed to the staff of the hospital to exercise restraint for the government to put the economy on a sound footing.

Mr. Peter Ebo Tawiah, Managing Director of Holiwatts Engineering, an Accra based firm, which executed the project expressed concern about the poor culture of maintenance among Ghanaians and said that had contributed to the deterioration of facilities earlier than expected. Dr Simpson Anim Boateng, Mfantseman District Director of Health Service, expressed gratitude to the DCE and the assembly for the prompt response to their appeal and gave the assurance that the facility would be regularly maintained.
