Mfantseman Assembly appeals for a DCE

Saltpond (C/R), Aug. 3, GNA – The Mfantseman District Assembly on Friday appealed to the President, Mr. J.A. Kufuor to appoint a District Chief Executive to administer the affairs of the district.

In a resolution passed at an emergency meeting at Saltpond, the assembly said the absence of a substantive DCE had worsened the already precarious problems facing the district.

The Presidents revoked the appointment of former DCE six months ago and appointed the Regional Minister to exercise oversight responsibility over the district.

The assembly noted that the task had over-burdened the Regional Minister who had no Deputy to assist him with the work at the Regional Consultative Council (RCC) and also as an MP, he had other duties to perform in his constituency.

It said the longer the appointment of a substantive DCE was delayed the more the development programmes of the district would suffer. The assembly assured the residents of its preparedness to approve the nomination of the person he would nominate and would also cooperate with him or her in the discharge of his or her duties. The assembly had earlier discussed and approved a supplementary estimate for 2003 based on the district’s share of the Common Fund. The district was allocated 4, 969,480,000 cedis.
