Metro Chief Executive leads taskforce to mobilise revenue

Tamale, Sept. 21, GNA – Mr Mohammed Amin Adam, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) on Wednesday, led a Revenue Taskforce of the Assembly to various business enterprises in the Metropolis to collect business operational fees due to the Assembly as part of renewed efforts to maximise revenue mobilisation.

Mr Adam told the GNA in an interview in Tamale that the Assembly had the potential to collect 21 billion cedis a year as revenue but it had always performed abysmally, adding that it generated only 1.6 billion cedis as at June this year, due to the unwillingness of the people to honour their tax obligations.

The MCE said the Assembly had several major development projects to undertake and said the poor revenue generation was hindering the implementation of the projects.

“We want to undertake several development projects in the Metropolis but we are constrained by scarce resources because the people are unwilling to pay their taxes even though we have the potential to raise adequate revenue,” he said.

Mr Adam said the exercise would also help the Assembly to design a revenue data to help it meet its revenue generation targets. He called on the public to co-operate with the Taskforce to facilitate its work. They should also pay their taxes regularly to enhance the resources of the Assembly.
