Sekondi, Aug 10, GNA – The Rt Rev John Harvey-Ewusi, the Methodist Bishop of the Sekondi Diocese, said the Methodist Church would step up its provision of educational and health facilities.
He said the decision of the government to release mission schools to their owners is welcome since it would enable the Church to revive its moral, spiritual and academic training of the youth.
The Rt Rev Harvey-Ewusi said this at a press conference on Tuesday at which he announced activities for the 170th Anniversary of the Methodist Church and the Fourth Methodist Festival of History and Archives (Methofest).
The four-day celebration begins on August 11 in Sekondi 800 delegates from Methodist churches in Ghana are attending.
Delegations from Cote D’Ivoire, Nigeria, Gambia, Sierra Leone, United Kingdom and the United States of America would also attend. Rt Rev Harvey-Ewusi said the celebrations are meant to remind Methodists of the work and sacrifices of the missionaries and early indigenous Christians.
He said the church would use Methofest to update its records, to assist members to become conversant with historical events of the church and improve on the living conditions of members. Rt Rev Harvey-Ewusi said the church would not abandon its educational, health, agricultural and other social services to communities and members.
He said debates, exhibitions and visits to historical sites in the Shama Ahanta East Metropolis will also form part of the celebrations.
