The fear of Ghanaian Pilgrims contracting the deadly Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) has been allayed.
The disease which came into prominence last year has so far affected nine countries and claimed the lives of about 58 persons.
Speaking to Kwami Sefa-Kayi on Peace FM’s morning show, ‘Kokrokoo’, Dr Mohammed Kamal Mohammed, Coordinator, Ghanaian medical team in Saudi Arabia said there is no cause for alarm.
According to him, before the pilgrims embarked on their journey, they were given two face masks as prescribed the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The wearing of the mask will prevent the pilgrims from contracting the disease.
Dr Mohammed indicated that once they find signs or symptoms of the disease, they will immediately attend to it; “but so far we have not seen any sign”.
“Everybody is fine. We were informed of the disease and so we made preparations towards it. They have already been given the masks so that they will not contract the disease and so everybody is fine; so far so good,” he assured.
