Memorial Service for three Urologists at Sunyani

Sunyani (B/A), Oct. 12, GNA – The Brong-Ahafo Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service on Tuesday said a memorial service would be organised to raise funds for the three Urologists of the Urology Department of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. The service will be held on Friday, October 28 at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in Sunyani.

Dr. Daniel Asare, Medical Superintendent in charge of the Sunyani hospital, announced this at a meeting of the nine-member planning committee for the service at Sunyani. He said the death of the urologists was a great blow to the hospital and the country.

Dr Asare said one billion cedis had been set as the target to be realized at the service to support survivors of the accident, families of the deceased and the Urology Foundation. He said part of the money would be used to erect a monument to serve as a memorial for the deceased in the region. “This will assuage the pain of the deceased families and encourage others to offer themselves for dedicated service for the country, He added.

Dr. Asare explained that many people from the region planned to attend the state burial of the deceased but due to the seats allocated to the region, it was not possible therefore, the service would enable people in the region to show their appreciation and love for the deceased and the survivors.

The deceased Professor John Kwateboi Marmon Quartey, First Consultant Urologist and Founder of the Anatomy and Urology Departments of the University of Ghana Medical School, Dr. Isaac Kofi Bentsi, Consultant Urologist and Dr. Benjamin Osei-Wiafe, Specialist Urologist, died in a fatal accident on the Bunso-Apedwa stretch of the Accra-Kumasi road on August 27, this year.
