Member of Parliament for Asokwa presents television sets to two schools

Kumasi, Oct. 4, GNA – Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Deputy Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Environment has presented a set of brass band instruments and a 29″ television set to authorities of two schools in Asokwa Constituency to improve extra-curricula activities. The beneficiary schools were Kyirapatre Basic and Asokwa-Amakom Basic Schools.

Mr Jumah who is also Member of Parliament for Asokwa said the items worth 6,500 Ghana cedis, were financed through his share of the Assemblies Common Fund. Presenting the items, he said it was in response to a request by the authorities to enhance extra curricula activities and entertainment. Mr Jumah said although infrastructure development was essential that alone could not facilitate better education delivery but need for extra curricula activities to enable the pupils develop their inherent talents. He explained that in addition to entertainment, the band could engage the youth during their leisure to prevent them from indulging in social vices such as drug abuse, premarital sex and criminal activities.

Mr Jumah pledged to ensure brass band and trumpet choirs in schools were developed into orchestra to provide jobs to the youth. Madam Agnes Adu Boahen, Headmistress of Kyirapatre Roman Catholic Primary School, who received the instruments on behalf of the schools expressed appreciation for the gesture and his immense and regular support to schools in the constituency. 04 Oct. 08
