Media urged to co-operate with the Military

Kumasi, Nov 28, GNA- Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor, the Minister of Defence, on Friday appealed to the media to refrain from publishing stories that could undermine the morale of the command structure of the military.

He said the government had confidence in the officers and men of the Armed Forces and there is the need for the media to co-operate with them to promote and protect the security of the nation.

Dr Addo Kufuor made the appeal when he interacted with the media at the headquarters of the Northern Command of the Ghana Armed Forces in Kumasi.

He urged the media to act responsibly in their reportage on security issues in order not to plunge the country into chaos and confusion.

Dr Addo Kufuor, however, said no military personnel is above the law, and have no authority to infringe on the rights and liberties of the citizenry.

He said any military officer who is found to have trampled on the rights of individuals would be made to face the full rigours of the law.

Brigadier George Aryiku, General Officer Commanding the Northern Command, urged the media to co-operate with the military to deepen democracy in the country.

He appealed to the media to always cross check issues concerning the military before they publish it.
