Mason remanded for defiling niece

A circuit court in Accra has remanded a mason into prison custody for allegedly defiling his 12-year-old niece at Spintex in Accra.

Moses Jafferson is alleged to have defiled his niece after giving her coca cola to drink, which made the victim drowsy.

Charged with defilement, Jafferson denied the offence before the court presided over by Mrs. Rita Agyeman-Budu. He is to reappear on December 15.

Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agnes Boafo told the court that the complainant was the victim’s aunt, a petty trader.

In July 2012, prosecution said, the victim’s mother went bankrupt and sent the victim to stay with Jafferson.

During her stay, ASP Boafo said Jafferson gave the victim coca cola in a polythene bag to drink.

When the victim took the drink, prosecution said the victim felt drowsy and slept.

ASP Boafo said when the victim woke up the following day she realized she was naked, adding that at another time Jafferson had sexual intercourse with her and warned her not to tell anyone.

Due to the Jafferson’s threat, the victim fled her uncle’s home and went to the complainant who noticed that the victim’s way of walking had changed.

ASP Boafo said the victim disclosed her ordeal to the complainant and a report was made to the police.
