Mason fined for stealing

A Mason at Ebubonko, a suburb of Cape Coast, who stole a brief case containing GH? 1,200.00 and other personal effects of his employer, was on Tuesday fined GH? 600.00 by Cape Coast District Magistrate Court.

Kwesi Owusu was convicted on his own plea and would serve a six- month jail term in default.

Passing the sentence, Mr Michael Gyamfi said he took into consideration the convict’s plead for leniency and forgiveness, adding that judges do not take delight in imprisoning people but are usually compelled to do so due to the bad behavior of convicts.

Police Inspector Samuel Amoako told the court that the complainant is Mr Edward Nimako Dankwa, a farmer.

He said the complainant and convict resides at Ebubonko and on Saturday, November 29, this year; he hired Owusu and another person whose name was only given as Bismarck.

The two, Inspector Amoako said were to help Mr Nimako to clean his new house to enable him move in.

He said while they were working, a friend of Mr Dankwa, whose name was only given as Abban was also unpacking the complainant’s belongings to the house during which the convict had the chance to steal the brief case and the other items.

Inspector Amoako said when Mr. Owusu noticed that the items were missing he questioned Owusu but he denied and the complainant not convinced went to Owusu’s house and a search uncovered the items in his room.

He said Mr Nimako lodged a complaint at the Police station which led to Owusu’s arrest.
