Ghana defender Marvin Senaya has resumed running on grass as he continues his recovery from the muscle injury suffered during the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The AJ Auxerre player has been unavailable since being injured in Ghana’s Round of 32 match against Colombia in July. As a result, he has missed the French club’s first seven matches of the new season.
Senaya’s return to grass work is a positive development in his rehabilitation, but there is still no confirmed date for his return to competitive football.
The injury brought his World Cup involvement to an early end and began a period of recovery for the defender. Although his latest progress will encourage Auxerre, he still has further rehabilitation to complete before he can be considered ready to play again.
Running on grass is an important stage in Senaya’s recovery, but it does not indicate that he is necessarily close to returning to competitive action. His progress will need to be assessed before his availability for club or country can be determined.
Senaya was one of Ghana’s standout performers at the 2026 World Cup and received praise for his displays during the tournament. His performances established him as an important member of the Black Stars squad.
His eventual return to full fitness would therefore be significant for both Auxerre and Ghana. Auxerre have had to begin the campaign without a defender who played a key role for the national team, while a fit Senaya would give the club another option as the season develops.
Ghana will also be following his rehabilitation as the national side prepares for its upcoming international assignments. His return to contention would strengthen the Black Stars after his impressive contribution at the World Cup.
For now, Senaya’s priority is to complete the next stages of his recovery and work towards a return to full training. Only after that process has progressed will it become clear when he can resume competitive football.
Auxerre and Ghana must therefore continue to wait for a confirmed timetable. While Senaya’s first running sessions on grass represent encouraging progress, neither side yet knows when the defender will be available for selection again.
