Margret Marquart Hospital to get modern O.P.D

Most Reverend Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, Catholic Bishop of Ho, on Thursday broke the ground for commencement of work for an ultra-modern Out Patient Department (O.P.D) for the Margret Marquart Catholic Hospital (MMCH) at Kpando.

The GH¢ 900,000.00 facility would have a conference hall and accommodation for guests.

The new O.P.D, expected to be completed in five years would replace the dilapidated 50-year old structure, serving as O.P.D, which would be converted into an accident and emergency unit.

Bishop Fianu said the project was an indication of how far the Hospital had come and its commitment to providing quality service and providing clients with privacy.

“We are very happy about this project. Health is an important aspect of our ministry and we can’t wait to celebrate this new facility and see how it benefits our people,” he said.

Reverend Dr. Lucy Hometowu, Medical Director, MMCH said the 30 capacity old O.P.D currently receives about 300 clients daily.

She said due to the large numbers, some patients were usually left at the mercy of the weather, having to wait under trees and canopies around the facility.

Rev. Dr. Hometowu said the situation was normally worse when it rained.

Madam Paulina Adinyira, Kpando Municipal Chief Executive lauded the Hospital for the foresight and pledged GH¢ 10,000 on behalf of the Assembly towards the project.

“Government considers this hospital as a Municipal hospital, so we are happy about progress being made and pledged our support to the project,” she said.

Togbega Dagadu VIII, Paramount Chief of Akpini Traditional area also stated the resolve of the traditional authorities to support the project, noting the important role the Hospital plays in providing healthcare services to patients from neighbouring Togo as well.

The Rotary Club of Ho through its President, Madam Susan Kudjoe presented a mobile slit lamp to the ophthalmologist unit of the Hospital as part of the sod-cutting ceremony.
